Awestruck – Coming Home For Christmas

AWESTRUCK -pt 5

Come Home for Christmas

“When the boy finally came to his senses he said to himself, ‘At home
even the hired men have enough food to spare and here I am dying of
hunger. I will go home to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned
against both heaven and you and I am no longer worthy to be called
your son. Please take me as a hired man.”’ So he returned home to
his father.” Luke 15

Most feel unworthy to come home to God. Most feel like they went too
far away from home or stayed too long.

“While he [the prodigal, the squanderer] was still a long distance away,
his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion he ran to
his son, embraced him and kissed him.”

“Dear son, you and I are very close. Everything I have is yours. We had
to celebrate this happy day for your brother was dead and has come
back to life. He was lost and now he is found.”

What kind of God will we be coming home to?
1. God is patient enough to not give up—So, come home
because it’s not too late and you haven’t stayed away too long.
“While he [the son] was still a long way off his father saw him.”
“God is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone
to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3

2. God is passionate enough to show extreme love—So,
accept His love.
“The Lord is loving toward all He has made.” Psalm 145

3. God is forgiving enough to accept me—So, I must decide to
live in His family.
Verse 21 “I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no
longer worthy to be your son.”
“The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving even though we have
rebelled against Him.” Daniel 9:9

What did the son do?

1. You come to your senses.
Verse 17 “When he came to his senses.”

2. You come clean.
He said, “I’m going to say ‘Father, I have sinned.’”
“People who cover over their sins will not prosper. But if they confess
and forsake them they will receive mercy.” Proverbs 20:8

3. You come home.
Verse 18 “I’ll set out and go back to my father.”
