Awestruck – Christmas Disappointments

AWESTRUCK
Part 3 – Christmas Disappointments

Luke 2:8-14 (NIV)
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch
over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the
glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the
angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause
great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been
born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You
will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a
great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God
and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to
those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone
into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let!s go to Bethlehem and
see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

Disappointment is the feeling we get when something fails to meet our expectations.

What do you do when you feel disappointed in God?

1. You don’t have to understand His plan to trust His purpose.

Proverbs 19:21
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it’s the Lord’s purpose that
prevails.”
Matthew 1:20-21
20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to
him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take
Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the
Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the
name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

2. Your Disappointment might be God’s Divine Appointment

The Middle of The Trial is Not The End of The Story

Matthew 9:1-8 (NIV) 1 Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over, and came to his own town. 2
Some men brought to him a paralyzed man lying on a mat. When Jesus
saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”3 At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fel-
low is blaspheming!”4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? 5 Which is easier: to say, Your sins are forgiven! or to say, “Get up and walk!?” 6 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat, and go home.” 7 Then the man got up and went home. 8 When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe;
and they praised God, who had given such authority to man.

Matthew 9:8 (AMP) When the crowds saw this, they were awestruck and glorified God and
praised Him, who had given such authority and power to men.
